Pacifica, California

Pacifica is a town just south of Daly City, right on the Pacific coast.  I discovered Pacifica a few weeks back when I was hunting for a great butcher!  Driving in on I-280, I was given a gorgeous view of the ocean.  It was such a wonderfully sunny day (we don't see a ton of these in foggy San Fran) so of course I whipped out my camera and snapped a few choice pics of the coastline.  Enjoy...

Wisdom Teeth

As many of you know, Shane had his wisdom teeth removed on Friday.  We've been recovering on the couch all weekend with plenty of chicken soup and popsicles.  Shane is doing pretty well, but gets a little achey right before his next dose of pain meds is due.  He's even gotten a little bit of work done this weekend (workaholic)!  He's being a very good patient and I've enjoyed playing nurse all weekend :-)

Now, for a little fun with numbers!

One - the number of individuals in our house who still have their wisdom teeth (his name is Archie)
Two - the number of teeth extracted from Shane's mouth
Three - the number of boxes of jello purchased for our recovery weekend (we've already eaten through two!)
Four - The number of hours between each dose of pain meds
Five - The number of movies we've watched this weekend (Killer Elite, Lion King, Woman in Black, Safehouse, and Wedding Crashers)

Ta-ta for now!

Top of the Mark

Top of the Mark is a rooftop bar located in downtown San Francisco, on California Street.  It has become a major tourist destination because of its magnificent views of the city and its menu of over 100 different martinis!

As they sailed off under the Golden Gate, wives and sweethearts [of sailors] would draw together in the lounge’s northwest corner, where they would tearfully gaze out the windows. This corner became known as the “Weepers’ Corner.” [source]
During World War II, servicemen would buy and leave a bottle in the care of the bartender so that the next soldier from their squadron could enjoy a free drink, the only requirement being that whoever had the last sip would buy the next bottle. The soldiers gathered before shipping out for one last toast to the Golden Gate Bridge, believing that the bridge was good luck and would bring them home. [source]

Happy Chinese New Year!

Even though actual Chinese New Year was a few weeks ago, the San Francisco Chinese New Year parade didn't take place until last weekend (I'm a week late on posting this -- oops!).  Shane and I attended the parade and it was awesome!

Uber

As I mentioned yesterday, Uber is a town car service that is not just for the rich and famous.  Shane discovered Uber several months ago (before we moved to SF) and has been uber-excited to try it out ever since we got here!

So basically, whenever you need a ride, rather than hailing a cab you can either text your location or use their map on the iPhone or Android app to set your pickup location, and within a few minutes a town car will be there to pick you up! Both cars we used on our Anniversarish lunch were nice and clean, and the drivers were super friendly. Now, the pricing is certainly higher than that of a regular cab, but only by a few $ more per mile, and it's definitely not terrible if you compare it to a real town car service!  Plus the billing works entirely through the iPhone/Android app, which is perfect if you never carry cash (like me!).

Unfortunately, Uber is not available in all cities, but they're growing more popular everyday.  As it stands, they're available in Boston, Chicago, LA, NYC, San Fran, Seattle, D.C., Paris and Toronto.  I highly recommend you give them a try next time you want to have a swanky night out (this is directed to the handful of blog-readers who live in the aforementioned cities -- miss you friends)!

p.s. Shane is the master of promotional freebies and he found where you can get a $25 credit through RetailMeNot -- our ride to lunch ended up being free! Enter the code 9927c during your signup and you'll get $10, and then enter the code Pistachio to get the extra $15.  Enjoy!

Happy Anniversarish!

So, the story of us is that we got together on October 7th, buttttt then we took some time off and we weren't officially "on" again until February 15th.  We mostly celebrate in October, so this is sort of an extra anniversary, or an "anniversarish" (plus it's easier to celebrate Valentine's Day a day late -- you can actually get restaurant reservations and Valentine's day candy is half-priced!).

Moving on.

The day began with flowers...
He got me tulips last year too :-)
Then, I was instructed to meet downtown at 1:30 for a surprise lunch!  Shane met me at the BART station with a town car (Shane is really fancy... and also in touch with the latest technologies so he can discover things like Uber -- additional blog post on this soon)...
I'm UBER excited -- hah!
Much to my surprise, Shane took me to Top of the Mark! Someone was just recently telling us about it and how they have the best views of the city and it did not disappoint...
More photos later...
We enjoyed a nice lunch, then took Uber back to the BART station (and Shane back to work).

For dinner, I set a beautiful table...

We began the meal with a caprese salad with the best heirloom tomatoes we've had in a long time (such a bummer when they're not in season)...

Then we had steak and mashed potatoes (my faaaaaaaaaaave) and for dessert, I made chocolate covered strawberries....

Happy Anniversarish to us!!!

Happy Thursday!

After making Shane his daily fruit salad to take to work....

I decided to head out to explore the San Francisco Arts Market that I found whilst googling yesterday! It was much smaller than I expected, but it got me out of the house and exploring for a bit, so it certainly wasn't a wasted trip!

After the market, I decided to wander the area.  The market is located in the UN Plaza which is not a particularly attractive area, but there are a few artsy parts...

I also walked by the old San Francisco Mint!

Finally, I decided I needed a lunch stop so I found a sushi restaurant with great ratings on Yelp and had a couple rolls and some soup! Yum!

I realized I had been gone for a few hours and Archie could probably use a potty break so I headed back home.  We went on a little walk and then came home and took a nap...

Happy Thursday!

Weird and Random San Fran Stuff

So that's pretty much it for the interesting photos of San Francisco.  What I have left now are the random weird things I photographed.  Ta-dah!!!

Not weird really, I just haven't seen an electric car before

So charming!
Thriller?
Who left these? And why?
Gorgeous!
Reminds me of Austin's Cathedral of Junk

Yes, that is a PeeWee Herman doll
